Thoracic surgeons at Fox Chase Cancer Center provide comprehensive care for patients with lung cancer and problems related to the lungs, chest and esophagus. In many cases, surgeons can perform surgery using minimally invasive techniques that cause fewer complications and improve outcomes without compromising cancer treatment. Our faculty have dual appointments in the Department of Thoracic Surgery at Temple Health.

Thoracic surgeons at Fox Chase use Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) to perform lung biopsies, pleural biopsies, wedge resections and lobectomies for patients with lung cancer, esophageal cancer, mediastinal tumors, Pancoast tumors and tumors of the chest wall. Thoracic surgeons use VATS most often for removing a lobe of a cancerous lung through two to four small incisions.

Our comprehensive program also includes a Tobacco Cessation Program and Lung Cancer Screening Program as well as dedicated thoracic nurse navigators.
