CHICAGO – Clinicians and scientists from Fox Chase Cancer Center attended the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in June.

Nearly 80 Fox Chase representatives participated in panel discussions, poster presentations and podium lectures. The ASCO Annual Meeting is the premiere worldwide event for this type of exchange.

These presentations led to coverage in several notable media outlets.

Commentary by Wafik El-Deiry in two separate Hem/Onc Today articles.  Hoss Borghaei’s work was covered by OncLive, and Targeted Oncology. Igor Astsaturov’s presentation was covered by Cancer Therapy Advisor.

Ranee Mehra’s abstract was covered by OncLive, PharmaLetter, Cosmos and MDLinx.   

HealthDay covered a national story about immunotherapy in bladder cancer, and Betsy Plimack provided expert commentary that was picked up by the Philadelphia Inquirer, US News & World Report, Albany Democratic Herald, Arizona Daily Star, United Press International, Nursing Knowledge.com, Healing Well, Health.com, Doctor’s Lounge, and WebMD.

Fox Chase remains committed to being part of the national conversation in science and medicine, and venues like ASCO are key platforms for progress.  

This year Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Week is April 10-16. To celebrate, the Temple Head & Neck Institute will be providing free head and neck screening examinations on the Temple University Hospital, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Jeanes Hospital and Temple Health Ft. Washington campuses.

The goal is to not only identify those with signs and symptoms that are worrisome for head and neck cancer, but to also provide key information on how to watch  for early changes in the mouth, head, or neck which might not be normal.

To schedule a screening, you can call the Temple Head & Neck Institute or  "walk-in" and register on site on the day of the event.

The Head and Neck Cancer Alliance has produced a public service announcement promoting the screenings:

Dr. Henry Fung and his Fox Chase colleagues present a Continuing Medical Education event on developments in Aggressive Lymphoma; Myelodysplasia; Plasma Cell Dyscrasia; Acute Leukemia and Myeloproliferative Disease; Less Common Lymphomas; Consultative Hematology; and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. 

This accredited CME program will be Saturday, April 2, 2016, at the Hilton Philadelphia at Penns Landing, presented by Fox Chase Cancer Center and the Temple Health Office for Continuing Medical Education.
