The Marlyn Chakov Fein Chapter was established in September 1976, and is inspired to this day by the life and courage of Marlyn Chakov Fein (1950-1976). Although given a discouraging survival rate for her diagnosis of osteogenic sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, at only 19 years of age, Marlyn continued bringing joy into the lives of her family and friends until she passed in 1976 at the age of 25. In her short time she never diminished her resolve, or her spirit, and lived her life to the fullest, marrying her fiancée, Frank, and, while unaware of her pregnancy, giving birth to a healthy baby girl, Rachel Faith Fein, reflecting the deep trust in God that had sustained Marlyn throughout her journey with cancer.
Inspired by her courage and fervor, her husband began raising money for Fox Chase Cancer Center the year after her passing, enlisting support from Marlyn’s family, friends, and classmates.
Today, the chapter consists of many more community members, inspired by her story, even without knowing her. With more than 100 members, the group is more active than ever. Through an annual program of events including holiday gift-wrapping, fashion shows, and more, the all-volunteer group has raised in excess of $2.1 million for Fox Chase Cancer Center, supporting our commitment for compassionate patient care and research in a sincere effort to help eradicate cancer in our lifetime.
