Studies Reveal More Clues on How Pregnancy Protects Against Breast Cancer

SAN DIEGO, CA (April 7, 2014)—Scientists at Fox Chase Cancer Center have unearthed new clues about how pregnancy reduces women's risk of developing breast cancer. The research will be presented at the AACR Annual Meeting 2014.

Taking a detailed look at the genetic material of women who had and had not given birth, the researchers noted differences in elements related to key processes that, when they go awry, can increase the risk of developing cancer.

Fox Chase's Michael H. Levy, MD, PhD, to Receive American Society of Clinical Oncology’s First Annual Excellence in Teaching Award

PHILADELPHIA, PA (March 25, 2014)—Michael H. Levy, MD, PhD, Vice Chair of Medical Oncology and Director of the Pain and Palliative Care Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, will be honored with the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s (ASCO) inaugural Excellence in Teaching Award at the organization’s 2014 Annual Meeting in Chicago in May. Dr. Levy is a leading palliative care expert who, in addition to his role at Fox Chase, is past president of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Stephen C. Rubin, MD, Named Chief of Gynecologic Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center

PHILADELPHIA, PA (March 6, 2014)—Stephen C. Rubin, MD, has joined the Department of Surgical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center as Chief of Gynecologic Oncology, where he will specialize in the treatment of patients with gynecologic cancers—including ovarian, uterine, cervical, and endometrial. Dr. Rubin has also been named Co-Clinical Leader of the Gynecological Service Line and Professor in the clinical investigator track of the Department of Surgical Oncology. In addition, he will hold the Paul Grotzinger and Wilbur Raab Chair in Surgical Oncology.
