Union Members Tee Off in Honor of National Mesothelioma Awareness Day
PHILADELPHIA, PA (September 18, 2014)—Union workers from around the region will team up with the members of the Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 14 – with the help of Stephen F. Pettit, the organization’s Business Manager – for the 20th Annual Mesothelioma Golf Outing on Friday, September 26 at Philmont Country Club (301 Tomlinson Road in Huntingdon Valley, PA). The golf outing, which takes place on National Mesothelioma Awareness Day, raises money for mesothelioma research at Fox Chase Cancer Center. To date, the event has raised more than $2 million. Mesothelioma is an aggressive and deadly form of cancer in which malignant cells are found in the lining of the chest or abdomen. It is directly related to the inhalation of loose asbestos fibers, putting those that work with asbestos and their families at high-risk for the disease.
