Get Your Rear in Gear Philadelphia Awards $25,000 to Fox Chase Cancer Center

PHILADELPHIA (July 16, 2015) — Get Your Rear in Gear Philadelphia awarded Fox Chase Cancer Center a grant for $25,000 for, “Understanding Quality of Life Issues Following Recovery from Colon Cancer Treatment.”  The money for this grant comes from funds that were raised during the 2015 Get Your Rear in Gear in Philadelphia.

“Fox Chase is extremely grateful to Get Your Rear in Gear Philadelphia for this generous donation, which will allow us to develop programs for colorectal cancer patients,” said Jeffrey M. Farma, MD, associate professor of surgical oncology, surgical oncology fellowship director, Fox Chase Cancer Center. “Funding from Get Your Rear in Gear Philadelphia will provide education on quality of life issues following a diagnosis and recovery from colorectal cancer, with the intention to improve quality of life after treatment.”

Maria Grasso, executive director of Get Your Rear in Gear Philadelphia, said, “We are pleased to support Dr. Farma’s research surrounding education of quality of life issues following colon cancer diagnosis, and applaud his intention to improve quality of life after treatment. We look forward to working again with Fox Chase Cancer Center for the Get Your Rear in Gear Philadelphia event on April 3, 2016.”

Get Your Rear in Gear Philadelphia is supported by the Colon Cancer Coalition, a national organization dedicated to furthering the advancement of colon cancer awareness and screening. By making the words colon, colorectal and colonoscopy a part of the everyday language, we believe we can overcome the fear and decrease deaths from this largely preventable cancer.
