In fall 2015, Barry was approaching some major milestones. He was turning 60 and he learned he’d soon be a grandfather – something he had been looking forward to for many years. But that dream was put on hold when Barry was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer.
The cancer had spread beyond his kidneys to his pancreas, spleen, and lungs, and the odds weren’t good. But, Fox Chase Cancer Center set him on a path to health by treating Barry with comprehensive urologic and gastrointestinal surgical care, as well as cutting-edge immunotherapy through a clinical trial.
After a year of healing, Barry was cancer free.
If Barry had started his care at another medical center, he might not have been a candidate for the immunotherapy trial that saved his life. But because he started his care at Fox Chase, he’s now able to watch his grandson grow up.
