Fox Chase Cancer Center welcomed newly elected State Representative Sean Dougherty to the campus on April 15, 2025. Rep. Dougherty was elected last November to serve Pennsylvania’s 172nd House District, which includes Fox Chase Cancer Center.

“We are honored that you took the time to meet with us today, value your early commitment to Fox Chase, and look forward to working in partnership with you and your team in service to our communities,” said Fox Chase President & CEO Robert Uzzo, MD, MBA, FACS.

As part of his visit, Dougherty took a guided tour of Fox Chase’s science labs, radiation oncology unit, and Boo’s Boutique. He said he was amazed at what he saw.

“Fox Chase is an amazing place. It is very clear you mean what you say when patients are not just numbers. You clearly treat each patient with a special level of care,” Dougherty said.

During his short time in Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives, Dougherty has sponsored 47 bills and resolutions, including House Bill 1123 that reduces the age at which colorectal cancer screenings are covered to age 45 from age 50.

As part of his visit, he presented a proclamation to surgeon Austin Williams, MD, MSEd, FACS, to celebrate his being named a Presidential Scholar by the Society of Surgical Oncologists. “Thank you for all you do for the patients in the community,” Dougherty said.

Dougherty obtained his law degree from Temple University in 2019, before working as a law clerk on the Superior Court of Pennsylvania. He served as a Philadelphia public defender for several years before entering private legal practice.
