PHILADELPHIA (September 3, 2019) — Fox Chase Cancer Center will hold its 20th annual Paws for the Cause, hosted by the Board of Associates, on Sunday, October 6, 2019, from 9:00 am to 12 pm. This event, which includes a one-mile walk around the Fox Chase Cancer Center main campus, is a fundraiser to support cancer research.
Hundreds of participants will enjoy a variety of vendors, animal rescue organizations, entertainment, refreshments, contests, and prizes. Since its first year, Paws for the Cause has raised more than $500,000 for cancer research at Fox Chase, with more than $100,000 raised last year alone.
Lori Giampaolo, who was successfully treated for Stage 3 ductal carcinoma at Fox Chase, will serve as the Patient Ambassador for 2019. Lori has undergone chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation treatment. She completed her last infusion this past December.
Her journey has been difficult, but with the help from her treatment team and the amazing support system of her family and friends, she is excited to participate in such a worthwhile event to help relieve the burden of other patients.
“I am proud to be an ambassador and help raise money to benefit patients now and in the future,” said Sameer Patel, MD, associate professor in the department of surgical oncology at Fox Chase. Patel will serve as Physician Ambassador for 2019.
The event will take place at Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Avenue in Philadelphia. Registration begins at 9:00 am in the Reimann Lot, and the walk starts at 10:45 am At 11:15 am, more fun kicks off with prizes, live music, children’s activities, and food.
