PHILADELPHIA (September 14, 2010) – Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Board of Directors has elected corporate finance lawyer Michael J. Heller to a three-year term of membership. He will also serve on the institutional advancement committee of the board, where his background in finance will be utilized to help Fox Chase develop key fundraising strategies.
“Fox Chase is one of the most well-respected healthcare facilities in the country and I am honored to join the talented individuals who sit on its board of directors," says Heller.
Since 1994, Heller has been with the law firm Cozen O’Connor, where he currently heads the emerging business and venture capital practice and serves as chair of the business law department. His practice is devoted to representing and counseling entrepreneurs and emerging growth companies in all industries during all stages of business formation and development. He was named a Pennsylvania “Super Lawyer” by Law & Politics.
An authority on venture capital and entrepreneurism, Heller speaks frequently on those and related subjects in the Mid-Atlantic region and is often quoted in local, regional, and national publications.
“Despite today’s challenging economy, Fox Chase remains one of the top cancer centers in the country and is dedicated to developing new programs and initiatives that will make it an even stronger cancer center in the future,” Heller says. “I anticipate that my legal expertise and background in corporate finance will be useful in working towards this goal."
In addition to his new appointment to the Fox Chase board, Heller is also a member of the board of directors for the Greater Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies, Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and the Entrepreneurs’ Forum of Philadelphia, Inc.
Prior to joining Cozen O’Connor, Heller practiced at the law firm Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen. He earned his law degree from Villanova University and his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University.
The Board of Directors, a group of individuals with broad expertise and diverse professional backgrounds, provides advice and counsel to Center leadership to help ensure that Fox Chase’s legacy of excellence continues.
