GMaP Region 4 Resources

“Over its 14 year history, GMaP Region 4 provided the following programs:

  • Travel Awards to support trainee travel to scholarly meetings. 170 awards were funded over the lifetime of the program, approximately $127,000 in support. The Travel Award program has been highly successful in facilitating networking, exposure to new research ideas, and the discovery of peer and senior mentors.

  • Research Stimulus Awards were created to support researchers who found themselves adjusting their research and career development plans greatly due to the pandemic. Scholars identified the need for a small award to assist in finding new information with the potential to inform a larger grant application as preliminary findings and other items. 29 awards of $1000-$1500 were funded, approximately $37,000.

  • Pilot Awards – 11 awards of $5,000-$10,000, approximately $62,500. Pilot awards were offered to generate feasibility data for larger research/education projects for early stage investigators in GMaP Region 4 focused on Cancer and Cancer Health Disparities (CHD) research.

  • Expert Grant Review - This award provided New Investigators and Early Stage Investigators who are applying for funding awards with feedback from senior researchers. Eight reviews conducted resulting in 3 K01s funded, 2 R01s funded, 1 K08 and 1 R01 not funded, and 1 R01 under review.
