Get Your Rear in Gear 2015

• Dr. Crystal Denlinger and myself, Dr. Jeffrey Farma, co-captained the Fox Chase Cancer Center Team for the Get Your Rear in Gear event on March 22, 2015.

  This was the first year we had participated as a FCCC team and it was truly a rewarding event. The Colon Cancer Coalition sponsors this yearly event to raise awareness and funding for colorectal cancer. The proceeds of the event are kept in Philadelphia to improve awareness, screening and research for colorectal cancer.

  As Fox Chase Cancer Center is a leader in the region and nationally in treating colorectal cancer, research and clinical trials related to colorectal cancer, both Dr. Denlinger and myself felt strongly about participating in this event.

  For our first year participating we had an amazing showing of Fox Chase Cancer Center physicians, staff, family members and patients with our team being greater than 80 members.

  The event was held at Memorial Hall near the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia. It consisted of a 4-mile run, 2-mile walk, and a Kids Fun run. Our team was well represented in our red FCCC t-shirts. Dr. Michael Hall had our best showing with a time of just over 27 minutes.

  More importantly we were able to interact with other families and patients of FCCC at the event. It was a truly rewarding experience and we look forward to increased participation in the coming years.

  Our team raised over $4,500 for colorectal cancer research!

  We look forward to building our collaboration with the Colon Cancer Coalition on future research and outreach projects. I’m excited for an even bigger turn out in 2016 and hope you can join us!
