Fox Chase Gets Its “Rear in Gear” to Fight Colon Cancer

PHILADELPHIA (March 21, 2016) — Faculty, staff, volunteers, patients, survivors, and their families will come together as members of the Fox Chase Cancer Center team for the Colon Cancer Coalition’s Annual Get Your Rear in Gear run/walk on Sunday, April 3, 2016. The family-friendly 4-mile run, 2-mile walk, and kids fun run will take place at the Please Touch Museum in Memorial Hall.

Renal Mass Biopsies May Improve Kidney Cancer Outcomes

PHILADELPHIA (March 9, 2016) – Fox Chase Cancer Center researchers recently showed that renal mass biopsy enabled accurate diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma. It can also be used to stratify patients based on disease risk — potentially minimizing the risk of over- or under-treatment in groups who could be on surveillance versus those who need surgery because of more aggressive renal tumors.

Study Reveals Gene-Environment Interaction That Increases The Risk Of Mesothelioma

PHILADELPHIA (February 22, 2016) –  Fox Chase Cancer Center – Temple Health researchers provide conclusive evidence that Bap1 is a bona fide tumor suppressor gene that strongly interacts with environmental factors to control the risk of developing malignant mesothelioma and other cancers. The findings, reported February 22nd in Cancer Research, shed light on the recently recognized BAP1 cancer syndrome, paving the way for new early detection and therapeutic strategies for a range of highly aggressive, hard-to-treat cancers.
