Understanding the Shortcomings of Cystoscopy in Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer

PHILADELPHIA (May 19, 2018) – Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center are seeking to solve a diagnostic dilemma inherent in current treatment recommendations for bladder cancer. This trial marks the first time the true negative predictive value of a normal cystoscopic evaluation  is being identified, allowing researchers to establish how often bladder cancer hides under the mucosa and evades endoscopic diagnosis.

HealthWell Foundation Opens New Cancer-Related Behavioral Health Fund

GERMANTOWN, Md. (May 10, 2018) The HealthWell Foundation®, an independent non-profit that provides a financial lifeline for inadequately insured Americans, has launched a new fund to provide copayment assistance for behavioral health treatments related to a cancer diagnosis. Through theCancer-Related Behavioral Health Fund, HealthWell will provide up to $2,000 in financial assistance for a 12-month grant to eligible patients who have annual household incomes up to 500 percent of the federal poverty level.

Building Better Antibodies through Coding

PHILADELPHIA (May 10, 2018) – Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center have developed a computer-based method to design disease-fighting antibodies, making it possible to strengthen and improve those known to be effective. The approach involved building new software that treats discrete pieces of the proteins as a collection of parts that can be adjusted and combined in new ways to design antibodies.
