New Drug Candidate Aims to Delay or Prevent Mesothelioma After Asbestos Exposure

PHILADELPHIA (February 2, 2023)—Protective clothing and other safeguards for those who work with asbestos have significantly reduced deaths from mesothelioma over the past decades. But what if it was also possible to protect people at high risk from the inside out? That’s the goal of a recent study at Fox Chase Cancer Center looking at a new drug candidate intended to delay or prevent the onset of mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer, after asbestos exposure.

PHILADELPHIA (January 23, 2023)—Fox Chase Cancer Center has achieved Magnet designation for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for the sixth consecutive time. Fox Chase has held Magnet status continuously since 2000, when it became the first hospital in Pennsylvania and the first specialty hospital in the United States to achieve Magnet designation.

PHILADELPHIA (January 23, 2023)—Pedro Torres-Ayuso, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Cancer and Cellular Biology at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University and the Cancer Signaling and Microenvironment research program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, recently received a grant that will be incorporated into the prestigious Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) for head and neck cancer held by Fox Chase Cancer Center.
