PHILADELPHIA (October 25, 2017) – David Wiest, PhD, deputy chief scientific officer and co-leader of blood cell development and function at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been appointed to the NCI’s Board of Scientific Counselors for Basic Sciences.

PHILADELPHIA (October 23, 2017) – Fox Chase Cancer Center researchers have discovered a new family of micro-RNAs that disrupt production of proteins essential to the growth and development of colorectal and other types of cancer cells. The newly identified micro-RNAs lower levels of cyclin-dependent kinases CDK4 and CDK6, blocking the growth of cancer cells.

PHILADELPHIA (October 4, 2017) – Fox Chase Cancer Center, a designated National Pancreatic Foundation Center, will again field a team of faculty, staff, patients, and friends to raise funds at the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s PurpleStride Philadelphia, the walk to end pancreatic cancer.

PHILADELPHIA (October 2, 2017) – October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, a time to celebrate the more than 3.1 million breast cancer survivors across the U.S. The Fox Chase Cancer Center stresses the importance of getting regular screening tests for breast cancer, which is the most reliable way to find breast cancer early.

PHILADELPHIA (October 2, 2017) – Fox Chase Cancer Center is the local presenting sponsor of the 2017 Miles for Melanoma Philadelphia. The run/walk starts at 8 a.m. at the Philadelphia Zoo on Saturday, Oct. 7. Check-in and registration begin at 7:00 am.

PHILADELPHIA (September 27, 2017) – An analysis led by researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center in collaboration with the European Organization for the Research and Treatment of Cancer found that treating cancer that has metastasized to the brain with focal, high-dose radiation yields improved early results compared with surgical removal. 

PHILADELPHIA (September 26, 2017) – Philadelphia philanthropist Concetta “Chet” Greenberg has made a transformational gift to create The Marvin and Concetta Greenberg Pancreatic Cancer Institute at Fox Chase Cancer Center.  It is the largest single gift in Fox Chase’s 113-year history.
