Created in 1999 by Fox Chase Cancer Center Board Member Jane Pepper and friends and colleagues, this chair honors G. Willing "Wing" Pepper (1909-2001), former president of Scott Paper Company, a noted Philadelphia philanthropist, and Fox Chase board member from 1973 to 1987. The chair was established to acknowledge and support an outstanding leader in the field of cancer research who represents the highest standards of excellence.
Robert G. Uzzo, MD, MBA, FACS
Chair, Department of Surgery
Dr. Robert Uzzo is a tenured member of the staff. His clinical interests focus on treatment for kidney, prostate, testicular, and bladder cancers and procedures for urinary diversion. A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is skilled in minimally invasive procedures, including pure laparoscopic and robotic surgery for kidney, prostate, and bladder cancers. He is also the national urology principle investigator for the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group trial to evaluate targeted therapies for kidney cancers, and is the co-chair of the genitourinary early management committee at E.C.O.G.
Uzzo's honors include the American Association of Cancer Research’s 1999 Young Investigator Award. At the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, he was a fellow in urologic oncology and an American Foundation for Urologic Diseases scholar.
Dr. Uzzo is a member of the American Urologic Association, a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Association of Cancer Research, the Society for Basic Urological Research and the Society of Urological Oncology. He has lectured extensively nationally and internationally on topics in urologic oncology and has published more than 200 chapters, manuscripts, and abstracts on various aspects of genitourinary malignancies.
In addition to his clinical activities, he has an active basic science lab investigating signaling mechanisms in prostate cancer. Dr. Uzzo has recently published a patient-oriented book entitled 100 Questions & Answers About Kidney Cancer.
