PHILADELPHIA, PA (December 15, 2011) — Temple University Health System and Fox Chase Cancer Center today signed an Affiliation Agreement that moves both institutions closer to bringing Fox Chase Cancer Center into the Temple family – marking a major milestone for two celebrated Philadelphia institutions that will enhance cancer research and patient care in the region, both immediately and for years to come.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (December 12, 2011) — In January 2012, Holy Family University will begin offering a special section of its RN-to-BSN program exclusively at Fox Chase Cancer Center—an institution that conducts a broad array of nationally competitive basic, translational, and clinical research, with special programs in cancer prevention, detection, survivorship, and community outreach.  The University’s program was chosen, through a competitive process, to provide on-site courses for Fox Chase staff members who desire a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree.

SAN ANTONIO, TX (December 9, 2011)—The presence of circulating tumor cells in the blood appears to have no relationship to survival in women who have just been diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer, according to new research from Fox Chase Cancer Center. However, the research shows that these stray tumor cells may signal that the disease has spread to other parts of the body, even before imaging reveals any metastases. The results will be presented on Friday, December 9 at the 2011 CTRC-AACR San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.

Philadelphia (November 30, 2011) – On Thursday, December 1, 2011, Fox Chase Cancer Center will host singer, songwriter, and cancer survivor Charlie Lustman.  The inspirational “minstrel of hope” will stroll through the halls of the hospital singing upbeat songs to cancer patients and their family and friends from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m., with a special performance in the Fox Chase cafeteria (333 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia) at 3:30 p.m., as part of his “Musical HOPE Campaign.”

Philadelphia (November 28, 2011) – Cancer patients, caregivers, researchers, volunteers, medical staff, and friends will gather on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. for the 22nd annual Tree of Life Ceremony in the Fox Chase Cancer Center cafeteria (333 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia). The event, which raises funds for patient care at Fox Chase, pays tribute to all those who have been touched by cancer—remembering those who have passed, supporting those who are fighting the disease, and celebrating caregivers and survivors in the effort to prevail over cancer.

Philadelphia (November 10, 2011) – Judith’s Reading Room, an organization that provides custom libraries to not-for-profit organizations that serve people who have limited or no access to literature, recently donated a custom-designed mobile library including 300 books valued at $6,912 to Fox Chase Cancer Center. Fox Chase received its first donation from Judith’s reading room in May 2011 when the organization donated books on Mother’s Day and again in June for Father’s Day.
