SAN DIEGO, CA (April 7, 2014)—Epithelial ovarian cancer is often referred to as a silent killer: Advanced-stage disease has a low survival rate, and in a vast majority of patients, the disease has already spread to other organs at the time of diagnosis because the symptoms are difficult to identify.

SAN DIEGO, CA (April 6, 2014)—Tumor cells are picky about where they live. In the wrong environment, they fail to reach their potential. But put those same cells on the right bit of real estate, and they grow like mad.  Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center found renal cancer cells planted in a supportive environment proliferate with the help of an enzyme usually only seen in the brain.

SAN DIEGO, CA (April 6, 2014)—Researchers from Fox Chase Cancer Center have shown that NEDD9, a scaffolding protein responsible for regulating signaling pathways in the cell, promotes the growth and spread of epithelial ovarian cancer.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (March 25, 2014)—Michael H. Levy, MD, PhD, Vice Chair of Medical Oncology and Director of the Pain and Palliative Care Program at Fox Chase Cancer Center, will be honored with the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s (ASCO) inaugural Excellence in Teaching Award at the organization’s 2014 Annual Meeting in Chicago in May. Dr. Levy is a leading palliative care expert who, in addition to his role at Fox Chase, is past president of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (March 6, 2014)—Stephen C. Rubin, MD, has joined the Department of Surgical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center as Chief of Gynecologic Oncology, where he will specialize in the treatment of patients with gynecologic cancers—including ovarian, uterine, cervical, and endometrial. Dr. Rubin has also been named Co-Clinical Leader of the Gynecological Service Line and Professor in the clinical investigator track of the Department of Surgical Oncology. In addition, he will hold the Paul Grotzinger and Wilbur Raab Chair in Surgical Oncology.
