PHILADELPHIA (March 1, 2017) – In honor of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Fox Chase Cancer Center is urging both patients to schedule a colorectal cancer screening.  One’s lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer is approximately 1 in 21 (4.7%) for men and 1 in 23 (4.4%) for women.

PHILADELPHIA (February 21, 2017)— Eric M. Horwitz, MD, chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been selected by the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS) as an inaugural ABS Fellow. He will be formally recognized at the ABS 2017 Annual Conference in Boston in April.

PHILADELPHIA (February 8, 2017) – The Fox Chase-Temple University Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Program has received internationally-recognized accreditation by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for adult allogeneic and autologous hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation, peripheral blood cellular therapy product collection, and cellular therapy product processing with minimal manipulation. 

PHILADELPHIA (February 2, 2017) – In the largest study of its kind to date, researchers from Fox Chase Cancer Center and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University confirmed that oral antibiotics combined with mechanical bowel preparation were more effective at preventing surgical site infections after elective colorectal surgery compared to no bowel preparation or use of mechanical bowel preparation alone. Nestor F. Esnaola, MD, MPH, professor of surgical oncology at Fox Chase, led the study, which appears in Annals of Surgery.

PHILADELPHIA (February 2, 2017) – Eric D. Tetzlaff, MHS, a physician assistant at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) for his outstanding contributions to patient care and the profession. 

PHILADELPHIA (February 1, 2017) – A board-certified radiation oncologist, Howell will start at Fox Chase on February 1, 2017.

PHILADELPHIA (January 31, 2017) – A team of researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center has found that stroma – a tumor-associated niche containing noncancerous cells and extracellular proteins – carries a cellular signature indicating whether it is likely to promote or restrict the tumor’s growth.
