PHILADELPHIA (May 17, 2018) – Jeffrey M. Farma, MD, FACS, associate professor of surgical oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been appointed vice chair of the Complex General Surgical Oncology Program Directors Committee of the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO). 

PHILADELPHIA (May 16, 2018) – Robert G. Uzzo, MD, FACS, professor and chair of the Department of Surgical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center, received the 2018 SUO Medal from the Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) for his significant contributions to the field of urologic oncology.

GERMANTOWN, Md. (May 10, 2018) The HealthWell Foundation^®, an independent non-profit that provides a financial lifeline for inadequately insured Americans, has launched a new fund to provide copayment assistance for behavioral health treatments related to a cancer diagnosis. Through theCancer-Related Behavioral Health Fund, HealthWell will provide up to $2,000 in financial assistance for a 12-month grant to eligible patients who have annual household incomes up to 500 percent of the federal poverty level.

PHILADELPHIA (May 10, 2018) – Researchers at Fox Chase Cancer Center have developed a computer-based method to design disease-fighting antibodies, making it possible to strengthen and improve those known to be effective. The approach involved building new software that treats discrete pieces of the proteins as a collection of parts that can be adjusted and combined in new ways to design antibodies.

PHILADELPHIA (May 8, 2018)—March Forth, a Colorectal Cancer Alliance prevention and screening initiative, today announced the launch of its Philadelphia colorectal cancer prevention program. Starting in Philadelphia, March Forth is mounting a national effort to attack colorectal cancer by driving up screening rates.

PHILADELPHIA  (May 7, 2018) – Eric Tetzlaff, MHS, PA-C, DFAAPA, a physician assistant at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has received the AAPA 2018 Publishing Award. His paper, “National Study of Burnout and Career Satisfaction among Physician Assistants in Oncology: Implications for Team-Based Care,” appears in the Journal of Oncology Practice.

PHILADELPHIA (April 23, 2018) — Fox Chase Cancer Center is pleased to announce the awardees of the request for application (RFA) focused on translational clinical protocol development based on basic and preclinical research results. The grants were open to Fox Chase Cancer Center/Temple University member labs.

PHILADELPHIA (April 17, 2018) – In honor of National Oral, Head, and Neck Cancer Awareness Week (April 8–15), Fox Chase Cancer Center offered free head and neck screenings to individuals throughout the community. Our goal was to raise awareness on the risk factors and signs of these cancers. Head and neck cancer is used to describe many malignant tumors that develop in or around the throat, larynx (voice box), nose, sinuses and mouth.
