Research Interests

Dr. Huang’s laboratory studies hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) self-renewal and differentiation regulatory mechanisms as well as leukemia. Specifically, research has focused on three main topics: 1. Understanding the roles of GSK3 and Wnt signaling in the regulation of HSCs self-renewal, and the contribution of Wnt signaling to leukemogenesis; 2. Investigating the role of epigenetic regulation especially DNA methylation in HSCs function; 3. Identifying new targets in leukemia therapy with a multiplexed genome editing CRISPR screening platform.

We use both transgenic and humanized NSG model as the major research system. The knowledge gained from these studies will provide new insights into the mechanisms of the regulation of HSCs self-renewal and differentiation, as well as the molecular and cellular biology of leukemia stem cells. It will be valuable for the diagnosis and prevention of hematopoietic diseases and the development of innovative therapeutics for many hematopoietic disorders.
