Reception Formally Welcomes New Recruits to Fox Chase

Connection and Community are key elements of the Fox Chase Cancer Center culture. Evident in many ways, one example is the New Faculty Reception, held January 22, 2026, when senior leaders and established faculty members officially welcomed the newest members to the faculty.

“At Fox Chase, we work as a team and we succeed as a team,” said President and CEO Robert Uzzo, MD, MBA, FACS, during the evening reception. “We draw inspiration from one other. Even more so, we find inspiration in the stories of our patients, in our interactions with them and their families, and in the confidence and trust that they place in all of us.”

This year’s celebration, which took place in the Fox Chase Cafeteria, welcomed 33 faculty members who joined Fox Chase within the last year. Amanda Purdy, PhD, Associate Chief Academic Officer and Director, Postdoctoral and Graduate Student Training Program, emceed the reception with remarks by Fox Chase and Temple Health leaders and plenty of time to enjoy good food, good music, and good company.

“This event is an important way for us to welcome our new faculty, as well as to give our Fox Chase community an opportunity to get to know them is an informal setting,” Purdy said.

Of note, a special program booklet shared at the event highlights interesting experiences and perspectives from Fox Chase’s newest faculty members. With facts like who braved the world’s tallest bungee jump in South Africa to who has a second-degree black belt in karate to who likes to start the day with coffee and an improv comedy podcast to who can solve a Rubix cube in under a minute and much more, see the special program booklet for a chance to learn something about these new colleagues beyond their research and clinical expertise.

A Special Place Like No Other

“There is no place quite like Fox Chase,” noted David Wiest, PhD, Interim Cancer Center Director. “World-class science is at our core. But there is something special here that I haven’t seen in the same way at other institutions. It is evident in the spirit of collaboration among our faculty, and we see it in the way people care for our patients. Many of us have even seen our own family members through cancer treatment here.”

The reception also highlighted the importance of mentorship in advancing individual careers and the work of Fox Chase, Temple Health and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine.

“Each of you strengthens our shared mission of pursuing outstanding patient care, innovative discovery, and the development of the next generation of clinicians and researchers,” said Amy Goldberg, MD, FACS, The Marjorie Joy Katz Dean of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. “We are excited for what we will accomplish together — for our patients, our students and trainees, and our communities.”
